Every job is a sexy job — October 2010

Compliments, appreciation and awards just never grow old.

I have never entered my design work in competitions but one of my oldest, most loyal, and most appreciative clients, the National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems (NAPHS) has been doing it on my behalf for years. And with positive results (check out my CV!) Today I received an email from Frieda Eastmann with the following cheerful news:

NAPHS MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY EARNS RECOGNITION FOR CREATIVITY. The NAPHS 2010 Membership Directory has been awarded a 2010 honorable mention by the MarCom Awards, an international awards competition that recognizes outstanding creative achievement by marketing and communication professionals. One of almost 5,000 entries, the NAPHS Membership Directorycompeted with submissions from individual communicators to media conglomerates and Fortune 500 companies. Perhaps the largest of its kind in the world, MarCom Awards is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, an international organization of several thousand creative professionals.

Now Frieda is the first to admit that the annual NAPHS Membership Directory is not a sexy job. Still, designing the new (but not too new) “look,” compiling information, and strategically placing ads is something I really enjoy doing each year. For me, even the unsexy jobs are sexy...because they are always a challenge, even if staying IN the box is part of the game. Bottom line: when it is not about me but about you, things can get very, well...sexy. Whether it is book layout, advertising, brochure design...and even if the subject is wastewater (read: ENTEX!)

Here is the cover to our directory. Simple. Straight forward. Sexy. Award-winning :)
